Partha was born in Aalo, Arunachal Pradesh, and spent his childhood moving between different districts of the state as his father served in the Arunachal Pradesh police. His mother, Sengpem Borgohain, had also worked as a government employee but left her job after Partha’s birth. He is married to Krishnangee Baruah, a writer who is currently pursuing a PhD in English Literature in Shillong, Meghalaya.
After completing his schooling in Arunachal, he moved to Chennai, where he earned his degree in Visual Arts from Madras Christian College. He then pursued further studies in film and motion photography at Mindscreen Film Institute. His passion for cinema blossomed at the institute, where he met some of the finest faculty in the field. The elective film studies and the special screenings, did much to reinforce his love for cinema. In due course, he had the privilege of serving as an assistant to Mr. Rajiv Menon, further honing his skills and gaining invaluable experience under his mentorship, where he found out how to give shape to the rest of his life. Since 2014, he has worked extensively in multiple creative capacities, including direction, cinematography, and line production. His first feature film, 1962 My Country Land, which he both directed and shot as cinematographer, completed principal photography in 2015. However, due to creative differences with the producers, he was unable to oversee the post-production process and therefore could not complete the film. His body of work spans Assamese, English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu language projects. As a cinematographer, he has collaborated with acclaimed filmmakers such as Manju Borah, Rajiv Menon, Dan Wolman, Manabendra Adhikary, Epuru Krishna Reddy, Prakash Deka, Nishajyoti Sharma, Shanawaz Nellikunnil, Nabapan Deka, Malang (Manish Mann Indoria) and Bidyut Kotoky.
His music video collaborations include projects with noted singers and lyricists such as Dipankar Sharma, Natalie Di Luccio, Vairamuthu, Bijoy Nalo, Anong Singpho, and Oupseng Namchoom. He has also collaborated with leading production houses and advertising agencies including Madras Talkies, TOBC Entertainment, Doo Creative India, and RK Swamy. Additionally, he has served as a line producer for commercials of brands such as Amul and Digsel. Partha has also directed a documentary for Doordarshan Kendra Dibrugarh and served as the cinematographer for 10 documentaries directed by filmmaker Nang Tanvi Manpoong for Doordarshan Kendra Itanagar. He has collaborated with director Suraj Sharma on 5 corporate video projects for prominent clients, including Gastech and Tyre Expo India. His journey in this creative field has been marked by a series of diverse and captivating projects, each one allowing him to learn more. With an unwavering passion for storytelling and a keen eye for detail, Partha has successfully navigated the dynamic landscape of freelance work, consistently crafting visual narratives that captivate audiences and elevate cinematic experiences.
